Everyone should have the right to a contract that reflects the hours they actually work. Labour’s manifesto promised this right for all workers – and that’s what working people expect Labour to deliver. But employers have been lobbying hard to limit it to people on low-hours contracts, and unfortunately the Government is currently proposing to go along with this.

Now the consultation is out it’s crunch time. We have to get the Government to change their mind. Add your name now.

All we’re asking is that workers have a contract that reflects the hours they’re already working – because there’s no security at work when your hours and pay are at the whim of your boss. Knowing what hours you’re going to work each week means you’re able to plan your finances, your childcare – your life.

There are more than one million people on a zero hours contract, and so many more working shifts that they depend on far beyond their contracted hours. But the detail matters. Loopholes could let bad employers dodge the rules and keep people on unpredictable shifts.

But as it stands the Government are proposing to limit the right to a Guaranteed Hours contract. They say they think the cut off should be somewhere between 8 and 20 hours a week – so anyone with a contract above that simply wouldn’t have this new protection at all. Add your name to tell the Government to think again, and deliver on their promise.
