SOLIDARITY OVER DIVISION – NORTH

TOGETHER for a New Deal for Working People

One day conference, Saturday 24 January, Durham

ABOUT THE DAY

This one-day conference will bring together union reps, organisers, activists and allies from across the labour movement at a key point in time, as new rights at work are on the way with Labour’s Employment Rights Act – and as we face the urgent task of combating the rise of Reform and pushing back against their divisive politics. We’ll hear from senior trade union and political leaders, including Joanne Thomas, Chair of Labour Unions, and Angela Rayner MP.

The Employment Rights Act shows what unions and Labour can achieve together. It opens new opportunities to recruit and organise and shifts the balance of power in the workplace. This is a moment to celebrate what we’ve achieved so far, but also to focus on how we deliver the New Deal in full, and how we ensure working people feel the benefit of these new rights in their lives.

The conference will cover two urgent priorities for the movement: how we secure the New Deal for Working People in full, and how we respond to the growing threat of Reform’s divisive and anti-worker politics.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Sessions on the New Deal and how we make sure members feel the benefit of new rights at work.
  • Hearing from union and political leaders.
  • Strategy to take on political threats and opportunities in our region – including how we beat Reform at the ballot box and in hearts and minds.
  • Space to share what’s working, what’s not and how we take the next steps together.
  • Time to build connections, swap ideas and strengthen solidarity across unions in the region.
