On track to public ownership of our railways 🚆

Good news! Today, Labour’s Bill that starts the process of renationalising the railways took an important step forward in Parliament. Labour’s Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill will receive its second reading in Parliament this evening. It’s been less than a month since the election, but Labour’s plan to put our railway back into public hands is clearly on track.

For too long, passengers and taxpayers alike have been forgotten, failed, and fleeced by profiteers. Labour’s bold reforms will create a publicly-owned railway that’s laser-focused on delivering for passengers and communities and ensuring reliable, safe, efficient, accessible, and affordable services that we can be proud of.

This progress marks a significant shift in government industrial strategy, underscoring Labour’s commitment to working with unions to deliver tangible benefits for both the general public and workers.

This progress marks a big shift in government industrial strategy, showing Labour’s commitment to working with unions to make a real difference for both the general public and workers.

We joined ASLEF members and Labour MPs in Westminster today, to mark this historic milestone.

Today marks a fundamental shift towards putting the public before profits. Putting our railways back into public hands has been a priority for our movement for decades – and today is a crucial first step towards getting that done. Today is only the start – but let’s celebrate this historic moment together.
